India Send Aircraft to Transport Their Citizens Out of Egypt

On Sunday the Government of India sent a passenger plane to Cairo to evacuate their citizens from Egypt because of the ongoing unrest, the government said in New Delhi. Special Air India aircraft will repatriate 300 people, mostly women and children, Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The State Department says the return is made after a request from Indian citizens living in Egypt who was hit by turbulence.

New Delhi asks its citizens not to travel to Egypt, which is now home to around 3,600 people of Indian descent. "We continue to follow the development of anxiety in Egypt. India has traditionally close relations and friends," the ministry said in a statement.


"We hope that soon there is a peaceful settlement of the situation without violence and further casualties," he added.

Six-day protest against President Hosni Mubarak's rule that has lasted three decades rocked Egypt's most populous nation in the Arab world, and killed at least 125 people, but the veteran leader's stay in power.
